Since 1978, the Sputum Bowl has been a cornerstone of our annual Congress meetings. Teams from across the U.S. vie for the prestigious prize and the ultimate bragging rights. It’s a thrilling event to both participate in and witness, serving as a highlight for many attendees. In 2004, we introduced the Student Division to the Bowl, igniting exponential growth in participation and excitement over the years.
It has been determined that to ensure a vibrant, competitive, and cost-effective competition, a minimum of 10 registered teams is required to host a national event.
To increase the chances of hosting the competition, any student team is welcome to register. Whether you’re a state champion, runner-up, or a team of students eager to test your RT trivia knowledge, there are no restrictions on who can participate.

We eagerly anticipate an exciting competition and look forward to crowning our next Sputum Bowl champion in Orlando, FL. The event will take place during the annual Congress gathering, from Nov. 20–23 at the Orange County Convention Center.
