2026 Congressional August Recess Advocacy Toolkit

AARC has compiled this comprehensive toolkit for respiratory therapists engaging members of Congress during the August 2026 Congressional District Work Period.

Advocacy has never been more important for the respiratory therapy profession. Congress is considering legislation affecting Medicare, workforce development, telehealth, oxygen access, and research. During the August district work period, Members of Congress are home meeting constituents, creating an ideal opportunity to explain how federal policy affects patients and respiratory therapists. While lawmakers are home, they are seeking practical solutions to healthcare challenges facing their communities. Respiratory therapists bring firsthand clinical expertise and real-world perspectives that can help inform better public policy.

Advocacy is one of the most powerful ways respiratory therapists can improve patient care beyond the bedside. Every meeting, every story, and every relationship helps lawmakers better understand the needs of patients with respiratory disease and the critical role respiratory therapists play in the healthcare system.

Thank you for serving as an advocate for your patients, your profession, and your community.
