Attending conferences as a respiratory therapist isn’t just about gaining knowledge; it’s about immersing oneself in a community dedicated to advancing one’s profession. So far this year, AARC staff and executive leaders, including Vice President of Education Mandy De Vries, MSc, RRT, RRT-NPS, President Carl Hinkson MSc, RRT, RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS, FAARC, President-Elect Dana Evans RRT, RRT-NPS, FACHE, FAARC, Sheri Tooley BSRT, RRT-NPS, CPFT, AE-C, FAARC, and others had the opportunity to attend and present at multiple AARC state society meetings and national conferences across the country. These meetings allowed for increased collaborations, leadership, learning, and partnerships that continue to advance the respiratory care profession.
Sharing knowledge and passion is a definite highlight of attending state and national meetings. “I’ve been fortunate to share my expertise on various topics, from the AARC Strategic Plan to pediatric respiratory care (Cystic Fibrosis and SMA), motivation, and student success stories. But equally rewarding has been the opportunity to learn from others. Sharing the stage with esteemed professionals like Angie Kriner, Kim Clark, Keith Lamb, and others. The biggest takeaway from all my travels this spring is the number of incredible RTs making a difference. Respiratory therapy is a field where everyone’s contributions are valued. Seeing others share their knowledge and passion is incredibly inspiring and motivating. Their passion for the field makes me incredibly optimistic about the future of respiratory therapy,” said De Vries.
State society conferences also offer a wealth of growth opportunities, from gaining new knowledge to networking with industry peers to understanding what is happening locally. “You’ll never regret investing in yourself and your professional development by attending a conference,” said De Vries. “Don’t forget about the exhibit halls too. They are filled with friendly faces, stimulating discussions, and cutting-edge technology.”
