State Advocacy

AARC’s voluntary Advocacy and Government Affairs Committee assists and mentors the State respiratory societies as they navigate State legislative affairs. The AARC gets involved with State government affairs as it relates to licensure or scope of practice.

AARC is establishing this area of the website so States will have resources to assist with issues that might arise with licensure and scope of practice.  The AARC offers guidance in the form of recommended language and best practices and will engage in state affairs in partnership with the state respiratory society.

The future of the profession will depend on state legislatures.  9 States have moved to a minimum of RT for licensure.  Establishing an interstate Compact for the respiratory care profession will require state legislation.  Moving forward with Advanced Practice Respiratory Therapist (APRT) initiatives will require state change.
