The AARC gets involved with State government affairs as it relates to licensure or scope of practice. The AARC offers guidance in the form of recommended language and best practices and will engage in state affairs in partnership with the state respiratory society.
The future of the profession will depend on state legislatures. 9 States have moved to a minimum of RT for licensure. Establishing an Interstate Compact for the respiratory care profession is making progress thanks to the involvement of state and national RT leaders. Moving forward with Advanced Practice Respiratory Therapist (APRT) initiatives will require state change.
