Ventilator Management Strategies for Severe BPD

About this Webcast

Infants born prematurely who develop chronic lung disease undergo changes in lung mechanics that call for different strategies for ventilator support from those used during the acute phase of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. This presentation will review the pathophysiology of severe BPD and the strategies used to support those infants with the most severe disease, who require prolonged mechanical ventilatory support. The speaker will also discuss different philosophies of ventilator support currently being used, and the characteristics of portable ventilators and ventilator circuits that can facilitate transition from an ICU ventilator to a home machine.

This course is sponsored by an unrestricted education grant from Medtronic.
