The presentation will discuss unique aspects of newborn respiratory physiology, identify the basic principles of neonatal ventilator-induced lung injury, emphasize the importance of optimizing lung volume and tidal volume, differentiate between volume-controlled and pressure-controlled/volume-targeted modes of mechanical ventilation, and discuss the evidence in support of volume-targeted ventilation.
