It’s a “We” Problem, Not a “They” Problem: Building the Evidence

The transition from respiratory therapy education to professional practice can be both exciting and challenging. Early-career respiratory therapists often encounter complex clinical situations, self-doubt, and uncertainty about how to grow beyond day-to-day responsibilities. This engaging live webinar explores how clinical curiosity, professional courage, and purposeful relationship-building can serve as powerful drivers of career development and long-term success. Respiratory care has evolved into a highly specialized and essential profession, yet much of the evidence guiding clinical practice, education, and policy continues to be generated outside of respiratory care. This reflects longstanding challenges related to limited protected time, resources, and training pathways to support widespread engagement in research. This session reframes research as a shared professional responsibility and explores how these constraints shape the questions that remain unanswered in respiratory care. Emphasis is placed on addressing this challenge collectively — by expanding research literacy, strengthening advanced education pathways, and fostering collaboration — so the profession can more fully build and contribute to its own evidence base.
