About the Sleep Section Chair

Dr. Amanda Leightner PhD, MHHS, RRT, RRT-SDS, CCSH, RPSGT, RST

Dr. Leightner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Professions for the master’s and bachelor’s Respiratory Care Programs and the Polysomnography Program at Youngstown State University. She currently serves as the Director of Clinical Education. Her previous work experience includes critical care, trauma, NICU, and Polysomnography. Areas of research interest include cultural competencies; respiratory care fundamentals, and Polysomnography with a focus on Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) adherence. Her most recent research focused on disruptive behavior in the respiratory workforce and a neuro-accounting study. She currently serves on the National Board Respiratory Care (NBRC) directors, serves as a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) site visitor, Lambda Beta board of directors and the OSRC program planning committee. Her experience as a Registered Polysomnography Technologist and Registered Respiratory Therapist leaves her with global understanding of the purpose of the Respiratory and Polysomnography professions.
