Elections Committee Questions:

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing the AARC and what do you recommend addressing it?

The greatest challenge facing the AARC is maintaining professional engagement while supporting a workforce that has experienced rapid change, burnout, and increasing demands. Throughout my service as an AARC Board Member, I have seen how engagement directly impacts organizational strength. We must ensure members clearly understand how the Association adds value to their careers and daily practice. This includes strengthening connections between national legislative initiatives and affiliate-level activity, expanding leadership development opportunities, and communicating tangible outcomes of advocacy and education efforts. When members feel engaged, supported, and empowered, they remain invested in advancing both the organization and the profession.

Health care is changing more rapidly than ever. What ideas do you have to help today’s Respiratory Therapist meet these challenges?

To meet ongoing change, the AARC must continue with its strategic initiatives to Educate and Elevate respiratory therapists by preparing them for evolving roles across the continuum of care. Expanding flexible educational offerings focused on advanced practice, leadership, evolving telehealth, and emerging care models will ensure therapists are prepared for future demands. Equally important is fostering mentorship and peer collaboration to support professional confidence and resilience. By advocating for professional recognition and appropriate staffing tools, the AARC can help therapists adapt while maintaining high-quality patient care.

How would you approach optimizing, developing, and implementing value added benefits, programs, and resources within AARC leadership and governance structures to meet the diverse needs of our members while also cultivating a keen sense of belonging and encouraging long term membership?

I would begin by aligning benefits with the AARC’s strategic emphasis on member value, inclusion, and long-term engagement. Optimization requires evaluating existing programs for impact, accessibility, and relevance while scaling proven successes across affiliates and specialty sections. Collaboration among committees and leadership ensures resources are complementary. Clear pathways for leadership development, recognition, and volunteer involvement cultivate belonging and professional investment. When members see benefits that reflect their career stage, practice setting, and aspirations, retention and sustained engagement naturally follow.

Explain your vision in the role of AARC Vice-President — Internal. How would you encourage the AARC committees, specialty sections, and other volunteers to contribute to the strategic direction of the AARC?

My vision for the Vice-President of Internal Affairs is to ensure strong alignment between governance, volunteer engagement, and the AARC’s strategic plan. This role should foster communication, transparency, and collaboration among committees, specialty sections, and leadership. I would encourage volunteers to think strategically, innovate responsibly, and connect their work directly to organizational priorities such as member value, workforce advancement, and professional recognition. By empowering volunteers with clarity, resources, and trust, we strengthen internal culture and drive meaningful progress for the AARC.
