Matt O’Brien is a past chair of the AARC Diagnostics section, he has over 30 years of experience working in pulmonary diagnostics. He is a faculty member of the MGC sponsored Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics Seminar. He currently provides training fand support for respiratory clinical trials.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  •  Explain the principles and clinical value of indirect calorimetry for measuring resting energy expenditure.
  • Identify appropriate patient indications, contraindications, and testing limitations.
  • Describe the preparation, calibration, and testing procedures needed to obtain safe, accurate measurements.
  • Evaluate test quality, troubleshoot unreliable data, and interpret results to support individualized nutrition management.
