New Young Investigator Award Announced

The Liebert/Sage Young Investigator Award recognizes excellence in early-career research in respiratory therapy. Each year, two investigators will each receive a $1,500 award in recognition of their dedication to advancing scholarship in the field of respiratory care. One award will honor contributions aligned with Respiratory Care, and the other with Respiratory Care Reports, a newly launched Open Access journal.

About the Award

Established in 2025, this award honors promising early-career researchers who have demonstrated a strong commitment to research in respiratory care.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be current AARC members nominated by their mentor for achievement in research related to respiratory therapy practice.
  • Applicants must be an RRT with a minimum baccalaureate degree.
  • Applicants must have presented abstracts at national meetings and have at least five peer-reviewed publications or abstracts (as first author or co-author) in reputable journals recognized within the field. At least one of these publications must be in Respiratory Care or Respiratory Care Reports.
  • Applicants are early-career investigators with fewer than 15 years in the profession.
  • Applicants can only receive the award once.

Selection process

  • The recipient will be selected by the Editorial staff of Respiratory Care and Respiratory Care Reports, in consultation with the Executive Director of the AARC
  • Two separate awards of $1,500 USD will be presented

Nomination process

The nomination package should include:

  • Nomination letter not to exceed 1,000 words that consists of: a description of the applicant’s work, a description of the applicant’s plan for continued research efforts, a description of the personal attributes of the applicant, and how they function with their research group
  • Applicant’s Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Copies of published work (max 5)

Timeline

  • The nomination period will close on September 15, 2025
  • The selection of the two recipients will be determined by October 1, 2025
  • The awards will be presented at the AARC Awards Ceremony at Congress 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona
  • The nomination package or additional questions should be sent to Dean Hess, PhD, RRT, FAARC, FCCM, FCCP, Managing Editor
