National Minority Health Month
April is National Minority Health Month! According to the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) this month is “a time to raise awareness about health disparities that continue to affect racial and ethnic minority populations and encourage action through health education, early detection, and control of disease complications.”
This year’s National Minority Health Month theme is “Give Your Community a Boost.” This theme was chosen to spread the awareness of how COVID-19 has disproportionately affected minorities. The NIMHD is working with other federal agencies to encourage communities to get vaccinated, including their booster shot.
Show your support for the COVID-19 vaccine and encourage others to get vaccinated with the AARC vaccine pin. You can find it at the AARC Store.
National Public Health Week
National Public Health Week (NPHW) takes place April 4-10. The American Public Health Association (APHA) puts on NPHW every year. It’s a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health.
This year’s theme is “Public Health is Where You Are.” Find plenty of resources on the NPHW website.
During this time, take advantage of your AARC resources by enrolling in our Pulmonary Rehab course.
World Health Day
World Health Day is April 7. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) slogan for this day is “our planet, our health.” This slogan was created to bring attention to keeping our planet healthy and in return keeping our communities healthy.
“In the midst of a pandemic, a polluted planet, increasing diseases like cancer, asthma, heart disease, on World Health Day 2022, WHO will focus global attention on urgent actions needed to keep humans and the planet healthy and foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being. ” – WHO
