Full Time, Night shift working from 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. during weekdays and rotating weekends

$10,000 Sign-on Bonus

JOB SUMMARY:  At Houston Methodist, the Lead Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) position functions in a lead role, for an assigned shift and/or area, performing lead job duties which include projects or specialized responsibilities as a regular part of their normal job responsibilities.  In addition to the lead responsibilities, also performs duties and responsibilities at a Sr RCP level which include advanced procedures.  This position serves as the liaison between management, staff and physicians for routine matters as the primary point of contact for resolving questions and issues for RCP’s as well as support staff, resulting in the delivery of exceptional patient care and adherence to standards of practice for optimal patient safety, quality outcomes, and customer service.  Duties for the Lead RCP position may be varied and include many of the following: organizing work schedules, assigning work, reviewing time cards for accuracy, conducting quality assurance audits of staff performance, developing and implementing quality improvement activities, training and mentoring staff, providing feedback on staff performance and developmental needs, participating in the development of skills and performance of staff, collecting/analyzing/reporting on data, preparing reports on department performance and metrics, and other responsibilities of a similar nature and level.


  • Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section


  • 4 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with two years ICU, Neonatal and/or ER (preferred at HMCCH), and lead/supervisor experience.  May consider Houston Methodist employee with three years respiratory care experience, one year as a Houston Methodist RCP and demonstrates progressive leadership abilities


  • Registered as Respiratory Therapist by National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC-RRT)
  • Licensed as Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Texas Medical Board (TMB-RCP)
  • One of the following Respiratory specialty credentials within six months of hire/transfer: Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS), Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS), Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT),  Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT), Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS), Certified Asthma Educator (AEC), Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS), or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)*
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support (PALS)*

*preferred, depending on area assigned
