Director of Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) Development position – AARC

Position Summary

 The AARC invites applications for a full-time Director of Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) Development position.  This person should expect to travel 10-20% of the time to meetings and to the executive office as scheduled.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Education and Meetings and the Managing Editor: RESPIRATORY CARE, the Director of CPG Development’s primary responsibility will be the coordination, development and publication of AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines. Said guidelines (upon completion) will go through peer-review and ultimately be published in RESPIRATORY CARE. In addition, this role will also be responsible for setting a review schedule for existing CPGs, updating CPGs and establishing a process by which new CPGs will be identified and developed.

The Director of CPG Development should have sound project management skills and will be responsible for managing a small team of volunteers/content experts who will aid in the development of CPGs. There will be expectations in meeting project timelines and milestones.

The Director of CPG Development will assume all other duties as assigned that contribute to the mission, vision, and values of the AARC and Daedalus Enterprises.


  • Identify a review schedule for updating existing CPGs based on an evidence-based format.
  • Create and implement a process by which new CPGs are identified and developed.
  • Work with VP of Education and Meetings and Managing Editor of RESPIRATORY CARE on annual education budget regarding the process of CPG development.
  • Identify and manage CPG development teams consisting of volunteers.  The applicant must be able to also identify internal and external resources to aid in CPG development.
  • Serve as a co-author on peer-reviewed manuscripts. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of publishing peer-reviewed material.
  • The expectation is that all CPGs will be submitted as manuscripts to RESPIRATORY CARE for review and subsequent publication.
  • This person will also work to disseminate CPGs to membership and other parties of interest.
  • This person will also perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Education and Meetings, COO, Executive Director, CEO and Managing Editor.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care (or related field) required
  • Master’s Degree in Respiratory Care (or related field) required
  • Doctoral Degree preferred
  • At least 10 years serving as a registered respiratory therapist required.
  • At least 3 years of publication experience in peer-review journals required.
  • Prior experience in creating/publishing CPGs preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • AARC membership required.
  • Membership to other organizations such as CHEST, ATS, SCCM preferred.
