Registered Respiratory Therapist – Home Care – Sleep Solutions Home Medical

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.  Assume primary responsibility for respiratory care modalities.  Initial instruct of proper equipment use in the home; maintain patient records; select, assemble, check and operate equipment.  Be well organized.

Customer Support Person:

  • Apply telephone communication in customer service

TASKS include:

  • Maintain charts that contain patients’ pertinent identification and therapy information
  • Determine requirements for treatment, such as type, method and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medication and dosages, compatible with physicians’ orders
  • Read prescription, and review patient information to assess patient condition
  • Inspect, clean, test and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently
  • Make emergency visits to resolve equipment problems
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears
  • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel
  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment
  • Enforce safety rules and ensure careful adherence to physicians’ orders

SUPERVISOR:  Clinical Manager



  • Must have education from an accredited Sleep Program.
  • Basic math skills
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of durable medical equipment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology


  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  May require extended hours of driving, including driving in inclement weather.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
