Director of Clinical Education (DCE) and Assistant/Associate Professor Respiratory Therapy – Missouri Western State University

Missouri Western State University, School of Nursing and Health Professions seeks applications for the position of Tenure-track, Assistant/Professor and Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for our new Bachelor’s Degree level, Respiratory Therapy Program.

Start date:  7-1-2022

Location:  St Joseph, Missouri

This position will be responsible for leading the implementation of the clinical experience portion of the program. The DCE is responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences offered to students including development of clinical objectives, planning and coordinating clinical experiences, administrative duties, and continuous review/revision of the program. The DCE will work in collaboration with the program director to ensure students are prepared to pass the NRBC exam and to independently work as a respiratory therapist upon graduation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Directing the clinical experiences as specified by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy (CoARC). This involves:

  • Preparing clinical rotation schedules
  • Serving as the liaison for clinical affiliation locations
  • Developing and teaching courses aligned with CoARC and the NBRC’s objectives/learning outcomes
  • Developing and revising curriculum to ensure student clinical exposures are coordinated with didactic and laboratory education.
  • Additional responsibilities will include maintaining office hours; participating in appropriate professional development activities: advising students, promoting excellence in teaching and service by setting high standards of academic and professional performance; evaluation and reporting student performance and progress; maintaining accurate records; assisting the Director of the Respiratory Therapy Program in academic and administrative matters, managing and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom or laboratory use; staying abreast of new trends and ideas in Respiratory Therapy and provide recruitment and matriculation direction for students.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in respiratory therapy or related field
    • Active RRTcredential.
    • Missouri state respiratory therapy license upon hire.
    • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory therapy.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapy program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of a CoARC-accredited school.
    • AHABLS, BLS Instructor, and ACLS provider certified before participating in the clinical environment.
