ECMO Specialist, RN or RT, Respiratory – Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Our top caregivers and teams are committed to delivering results that change lives. We seek a highly skilled ECMO Specialist, RN or RT, Respiratory to join our team on a full-time basis.

Full-Time, Rotating

Acting as a resource for the interdisciplinary team, the professional we select for this vital role will monitor, operate, and adjust, and ensure safe management of ECMO circuits and components to maintain patient-specific parameters. Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Continually assessing and evaluating ECMO circuits and troubleshooting/resolving issues.
  • Assisting team members with cannulation and responding to eCPR, SHOCK, and lung-rescue calls.
  • Setting up and priming ECMO circuits independently.
  • Confidently differentiating physiology for VV and VA ECMO indications.
  • Partnering with ECMO coordinators and physician leadership to advance the ECMO program within and throughout our system.
  • Assisting with staff training and competencies and quality and outcome reviews to ensure alignment with ELSO guidelines.
  • Establishing connections for CRRT to ECMO circuits.
  • Maintaining scheduled pre- and post-oxygenator gases and laboratory monitoring.
  • Completing shift documentation regarding patient progress, as well as billing documents, and data capture.
  • Maintaining and completing bi-annual competencies and training per ELSO guidelines.

This could be your next career move if you possess these credentials:

Required

  • Two or more years of CTICU experience and CCRN for nursing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing OR status as a respiratory therapist
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Registered professional nurse licensure in the state of Illinois
  • BLS from the American Heart Association
  • Competence in troubleshooting ECMO circuits

Preferred

  • ACLS from the American Heart Association
