Elections Committee Questions:
Within your role, and if given the opportunity, how would you incorporate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion to uphold, update, and uplift the AARC as an organization, all AARC affiliates, and all AARC members?
First, as we, all fill positions in the AARC and State Affiliates to serve our profession and in return, we positively serve the membership of the AARC regardless of how diverse we all are. Reflecting our own positive motives to serve the large association, I believe mentoring someone is the most important way to serve. Weather it is in a State Affiliate’s Chapter, State Affiliate, or National office; we need to mentor by example. I will continue to do that. Secondly, promotion of students nationally and internationally will uplift the AARC as an organization. I believe the best way to promote students in a larger context is to create some type of student organization with in the AARC. I would support the creation of such a student organization. Finally, affiliate support follows the mentoring positive service. I would support any AARC initiatives for affiliates through workshops and other media and any new initiatives that help new leader be positive leaders of the future.
What ideas would you present to increase AARC membership?
I believe we, as an international organization, should promote students in a larger context. My idea has always been to create some type of Student organization with in the AARC. Whether that is via a section created and have the students vote for the chairperson or have their own officers top to bottom and promote their own initiatives in line with the AARC. Many State Affiliates have student run programs (liaison or others) so many have some structure already. With the eventual move to a BS degree, students will be able to build and belong to this sub organization for 2 to 3 year once in RT programs. Finally, the idea is built with the concept of who better to recruit or foster long running memberships, than the students themselves as strive more buy in to the larger association. Increase membership by evolving students at a greater level in a more consistent fashion over various years giving them a stake in their future.
