Texas Legislature to Consider Licensure Issues

 Updated: April 20, 2017

Bills have been introduced in the Texas House (HB 2510) and Senate (SB 202) to move Texas RCPs under the Texas Medical Board. The Texas Senate Health and Human Services Committee will hold a hearing on Monday, March 23 to consider SB 202.

The Texas Society for Respiratory Care is asking all Texas RCPs to contact their state legislators and ask for their support of HB 2510 and SB 202 at this time. TSRC President Russell Graham says these bills will strengthen the position of RCPs in the state.

These bills come following discussion in Texas last year that would have de-licensed respiratory care practitioners in Texas. Because of the strong showing of support for and by respiratory therapists at that time, the bills actually strengthen the position of RCPs in the state by moving licensure under the medical board.

The Texas Society for Respiratory Care is asking for the support of all Texas RCPs in contacting their legislators and stating “I am a Texas RCP and I support passage of SB 202/HB 2510.“ Enlist the help and support of your friends and family as well. Your license is on the line.
