The Tobacco Settlement
As supporters of good lung health the AARC has always supported legislative and regulatory initiatives on both a state and federal level to decrease the public’s dependence on and addiction to tobacco products.
The AARC was one of many associations to push legislative efforts on Capitol Hill advocating for the landmark Tobacco Settlement. The AARC state societies support legislation that would disperse the Tobacco Settlement Funds to smoking cessation and prevention programs. To read more about the Tobacco Settlement Fund and other tobacco issues go to the CDC’s website at: http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/.
Another fine resource, especially on state activities is the website for the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids http://tobaccofreekids.org.
The battle fight over tobacco use and tobacco regulations continues. In 2005 the AARC again showed its support on this important public health issue by working with other associations and sending a joint coalition letter to both the US Attorney General and to the Federal Trade Commission.
