Summer Forum Abstract Submission Guidelines

The AARC Education Section is looking for educational research on models and instructional methods that may be useful in preparing entry-level therapists, continuing education and professional development for practicing therapists, or patient education. Special consideration will be given to research abstracts that deal with current educational trends.

The 2008 Summer Forum, scheduled for July 11–13, 2008, in Phoenix, AZ, offers an excellent opportunity for participants to share their scholarly activities with colleagues through a research abstract. The Summer Forum meeting agenda will include time for presenters to give a brief overview of their research abstract to all of the attendees followed by a question and answer session.

Submission Deadline: March 15, 2008

All abstracts will be peer-reviewed, and the authors will be notified of the final decisions by April 20, 2008. The abstract may have been presented previously at a local or regional—but not national—meeting and should not have been published previously in a national journal. The submission is the only evidence by which the reviewers can decide whether the author should be invited to present at the Summer Forum. Therefore, the submission must provide all important data, findings, and conclusions. Do not make general statements such as “results will be presented” or “significance will be discussed.” Questions may be directed to the review committee chair, Ellen Becker, PhD, RRT-NPS, AE-C.

Research Abstract Contents: Submission must include: (1) Title; (2) Background: purpose of the study; context or significance of the problem; and statement of the research problem, question, or hypothesis; (3) Methods: description of data collection and analysis methods in sufficient detail to permit judgment of validity; (4) Results: statement of research findings with statistical analysis (quantitative) or interpretation of data (qualitative); (5) Conclusions: interpretation of the meaning and value of the results.

Formatting Instructions: Paper size should be 8.5 in. x 11 in. with all margins set to 1.0 in. Use a 12-point font with a Times New Roman or Helvetica typeface. Save the file in either a rich text (*.rtf) or PDF format. Standard abbreviations may be employed without explanation; new or infrequently used abbreviations should be spelled out on first use. Any recurring phrase or expression may be abbreviated if it is first explained.  Check the submission for errors in spelling, grammar, facts, and figures; clarity of language; and conformance to these specifications.
