Respiratory Therapists to Answer Your Questions about Lung Disease

Your Lung Health Planned during World-Renowned International Respiratory Congress

For Immediate Release

IRVING, TEX. (November 3, 2004) – Do you ever stop to think about breathing? Or think about how your lungs are doing? If you're one of the millions of Americans who have lung conditions including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, sleep-disordered breathing, you think about breathing a lot.

On December 6 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, 2 Poydras St., Grand Salon A, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) will host Your Lung Health, a public forum for those who want to learn more about their lungs. The event occurs during the International Respiratory Congress slated for December 4-7, at the New Orleans Convention Center.

The International Respiratory Congress is the world's largest cardiopulmonary educational show, attracting more than 7,000 attendees annually. This year marks the International Respiratory Congress’s 50th anniversary.

“The Congress is like no other gathering of respiratory experts in the world,” says Melaine Giordano, RN, RRT, co-organizer of the public forum. “During this program we will share the expertise of our speakers with the very patients and families we serve, those suffering from respiratory diseases.”

Adds Margaret F. Traband, MEd, RRT, former AARC president and co-organizer of the forum, we believe this event in New Orleans will help those dealing with lung disease learn more about important ways to live well with respiratory conditions.

Mark Junge the first oxygen dependent coast-to-coast bicycler will be at the meeting. Junge, from Cheynne, Wyo., will discuss his success and how he deals with using oxygen. Following the lecture series, participants may tour the Exhibition Hall. The lectures feature:

The Nuts and Bolts of Lung Disease: Plain and Simple Talk will be presented by Patrick Dunne MEd, RRT, FAARC, a registered respiratory therapist and the Chief Executive Officer of Health Productions, in Fullerton, Calif.

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! Taking the Scare Out of Medications will feature registered respiratory therapist DeeDee Gardner MS, RRT, an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away: Health Living Tips will be presented by Helen Sorenson MA, RRT, FAARC, who is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

In addition to these lectures, a question-and-answer session along with discussion about lung health will be available. Members of the forum will be able to see demonstrations of the latest respiratory care products on the market.
