AARC’s 2004 Uniform Reporting Manual for Hospitals Now Available

For Immediate Release
IRVING, TX (June 21, 2004) – The 2004 update of the American Association for Respiratory Care’s (AARC) Uniform Reporting Manual (URM) for Hospitals is now available.

Like its predecessors, the new edition is a must-have for any department interested in managing the most costly factor in its operations – human resources.

“With the URM for hospitals, managers can establish a credible productivity system to guide staffing decisions,” says AARC Director of Education and Management Bill Dubbs, MEd, MHA, RRT, FAARC. “In this era where the economics of health care continues to drive the delivery of health care services, having such a system in place allows departments to make shift-by-shift staff adjustments to correspond with short-term nuances in service demand.”

By allowing for the comparison of standard activities, Dubbs says the URM also forms a foundation for benchmarking within the industry. “This information is invaluable in budget development, comparing ‘actual’ to ‘forecast’ budget figures, the efficient use of resources, capital equipment acquisition, and supply purchasing decisions.”

The 2004 update was developed by a panel of experts who drafted the initial activities and managed the Web-based survey instrument that captured data submitted by hospital departments across the nation. This project is supported by an unrestricted grant from Cardinal Health.

To purchase the 2004 URM for Hospitals, visit the AARC Store, or contact AARC Customer Service at 9425 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75063, (972) 243-2272, e-mail: info@AARC.org, or fax 972-484-2720. Cost is $150 for AARC members and $190 for nonmembers.

The American Association for Respiratory Care is a professional membership organization of respiratory therapists dedicated to respiratory therapy education and research.
