RESPIRATORY CARE Included in Research "Web of Science"

IRVING TX (January 11, 2006) -- RESPIRATORY CARE, the AARC's science journal, continues to garner recognition as indicated by its recent acceptance into a highly regarded research database system.

RESPIRATORY CARE Journal has been accepted into the Thomson/ISI “Web of Science,” meaning that it will be included in the ongoing database for the Science Citation Index, Current Contents, and Journal Impact Factor.

Thomson/ISI's web site says, “ISI is committed to providing comprehensive coverage of the world's most important and influential journals for its subscribers' current awareness and retrospective information retrieval needs.” Only 10–12% of the journals that apply are accepted for inclusion in the system.

Inclusion in the Web of Science means that RESPIRATORY CARE will be part of the database that is used by professionals at every stage of research and development from discovery and analysis, to product development and distribution. The world's top companies and research organizations use the Thomson/ISI tools because they are a one-stop-shop for quality information gleaned from the web. Their systems are used by researchers, information specialists, and professionals in the fields of biotechnology, chemistry, engineering, healthcare, law, financial services, higher education, reference information, corporate training, and assessment.

Part of the Thomson/ISI system of evaluating journals and their usefulness is a factor called the Journal Impact Factor. The Impact Factor is a measure of the frequency with which the “average article” in a journal has been cited in a particular year or period. While this is not the only parameter used in Thomson's selection of journals, it is widely recognized as one important factor in a journal's influence and is one that would have been taken into account as RESPIRATORY CARE was evaluated for inclusion.
