Mad River Respiratory Therapist Wins National
Award

IRVING, TX (January 20, 2005) – Carl Willoughby, RRT,
coordinator of the pulmonary rehabilitation program at Mad River Community
Hospital in Aracta, CA, has won the American Association for Respiratory
Care's (AARC) annual Continuing Care & Rehabilitation Specialty
Practitioner of the Year Award.
Willoughby received the award at the recent AARC International
Respiratory Congress held in New Orleans, LA.
The registered respiratory therapist is being honored
for his dedication to providing much needed pulmonary rehab services
to patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and
other chronic lung conditions. A long-time member of the respiratory
care profession, he's worked in nearly every specialty area the field
has to offer, from neonatology to home care, but is most at home helping
chronically ill patients breathe easier.
“Carl has served as coordinator at Mad River since 1996,
and out of all the areas he has worked in, feels pulmonary rehab is
the most rewarding,” says Cheri Duncan, RRT, chair of the Continuing
Care & Rehabilitation Section.
Respiratory Therapists (RTs) are specially trained
and licensed respiratory health care professionals assisting physicians
in diagnosis, treatment, and management of respiratory diseases. RTs
provide care in hospitals, outpatient centers, physicians' offices,
skilled nursing facilities, and patients' homes.
The American Association for
Respiratory Care (AARC) is a not-for-profit, professional organization,
consisting of 36,000 respiratory therapists, physicians, and other health
care professionals. AARC is dedicated to assisting persons with respiratory
diseases receive safe and effective respiratory care.
