Mad River Respiratory Therapist Wins National Award

For Immediate Release

IRVING, TX (January 20, 2005) – Carl Willoughby, RRT, coordinator of the pulmonary rehabilitation program at Mad River Community Hospital in Aracta, CA, has won the American Association for Respiratory Care's (AARC) annual Continuing Care & Rehabilitation Specialty Practitioner of the Year Award.

Willoughby received the award at the recent AARC International Respiratory Congress held in New Orleans, LA.

The registered respiratory therapist is being honored for his dedication to providing much needed pulmonary rehab services to patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other chronic lung conditions. A long-time member of the respiratory care profession, he's worked in nearly every specialty area the field has to offer, from neonatology to home care, but is most at home helping chronically ill patients breathe easier.

“Carl has served as coordinator at Mad River since 1996, and out of all the areas he has worked in, feels pulmonary rehab is the most rewarding,” says Cheri Duncan, RRT, chair of the Continuing Care & Rehabilitation Section.

Respiratory Therapists (RTs) are specially trained and licensed respiratory health care professionals assisting physicians in diagnosis, treatment, and management of respiratory diseases. RTs provide care in hospitals, outpatient centers, physicians' offices, skilled nursing facilities, and patients' homes.
