Local Therapist Honored by National Respiratory Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dallas, TX (December 17, 2012) —The American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) honored Patrick Dunne, MEd, RRT, FAARC with the Forrest M. Bird Lifetime Achievement Award, given at the largest national meeting of respiratory therapists held each year.
Patrick Dunne, from Fullerton, CA, has been a member of the respiratory care profession since graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in the mid-1960s. After working as a clinician and serving as a respiratory therapy educator, he transitioned to home care in 1983 where he pioneered the role of the respiratory therapist in the home setting. Since 2001 he has been working as a clinical application specialist, assisting clients in demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of newer technology in the aerosol drug delivery and long term oxygen therapy arenas.
This award was established in 1983 to acknowledge outstanding individual scientific contributions in respiratory care with a grant from Dr. Forrest M. Bird, an innovator in respiratory care research and development and a member of the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame.
Respiratory therapists are specialized health care providers who take care of people with lung conditions ranging from asthma to COPD. They work throughout the acute care hospital on the general wards, in the emergency department, and in the intensive care units, and are also increasingly employed in sleep centers, physician offices, outpatient clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation programs, skilled nursing facilities, and patients’ homes.
RRT stands for Registered Respiratory Therapist
