AARC Member Wins National Asthma Scholarship
September 17, 2004
AARC member Tori Lynn Child, RRT, RCP, is one of two recipients of
a new scholarship sponsored by the National Asthma Educator Certification
Board (NAECB).
The Dr. Linda B. Ford Scholarship for asthma educators went to Child,
who practices the profession in New Mexico, and Mary Jane Foos, RN,
MSN, of Ohio. According to the NAECB, the scholarship was created to “provide
assistance for individuals pursing their national asthma educator certification.”
The NAECB is the only U.S. organization providing a national certification
examination for asthma educators. The scholarship is named for Linda
B. Ford, MD, a founding member of the NAECB and its first chair.
Respiratory therapists involved in asthma management are encouraged
to sit for the exam and earn the Asthma Educator-Certified (AE-C) credential.
The AARC assists therapists in achieving that goal by sponsoring an
Asthma Disease Management Program/Asthma Certification Preparation
Course, which is held regularly throughout the country over the course
of the year.
The course is based on the content outline of the NACEB examination,
along with information about asthma disease management and asthma management
protocols.
The next session of this popular course will take place Dec. 2–3
immediately prior to the AARC International Respiratory Congress in
New Orleans,
LA. Upcoming sessions for 2005 include:
February 19–20––Los Angeles, CA
March 19–20––Cleveland, OH
April 23–24––Valley Forge, PA
July 10–11––Lake Buena Vista, FL
August 27–28––Houston, TX
