Lung Health Day Brings Focus to RC Week Activities!
The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) created this day
to focus on lung health as part of its annual Respiratory Care Week
celebration.
Respiratory Care Week touts the work of respiratory therapists (RTs)
in all care settings. Lung Health Day, held the Wednesday of Respiratory
Care Week, is the day we suggest you hold and promote community activities
to build awareness of good lung health and provide a focal point for
media contact.
We suggest some of the following:
- Community services activities outlined in our 100
ideas list.
- Spirometry testing for the public with announcements to your local
media. See our PR
guide for information on contacting them.
- MDI or DPI teaching. This community service helps those who need
instruction in effectively using their inhalers.
- Promotion of the AARC's 60-Second
Checkup series with your local radio stations. Call us
at 972-406-4656 to find out how you can help.
- Partnering with local media personalities to perform lung function
tests on air and finding ideas
that make them sit up and take notice.
Watch for these AARC-sponsored media activities:
- Placements of health tips in your local and regional weekly papers.
Send us clippings!
- Listen to the radio to hear local RTs describe Lung Health Day
activities in their communities as we partner with SoundTargeting
to bring HomeTown radio spots to stations across the country.
- Promotions for YourLungHealth.org, our patient education website,
as we continue to roll out features and functions on that site.
- Features in daily newspapers spawned by AARC notifications to health
editors about local events and activities.
Do you need some talking points to help you with your own media contacts?
