Is asthma on your radar screen? If you answered yes, then you are in good company. Over the past year, the AARC has seen a growing interest among health care professionals in both the Association’s Asthma Educator Certification Preparation Program and the ARCF/EPA Indoor Environmental Asthma Triggers Train-the-Trainer Workshop.

The latest example of this trend occurred August 7, when more than 400 people gathered for the ARCF/EPA workshop in Grand Rapids, MI.

“The Grand Rapids workshop attracted the largest crowds we’ve seen with this program,” says AARC Chief Operating Officer Tom Kallstrom, RRT, AE-C, FAARC. “It really shows how asthma and, more specifically, the management of asthma triggers is becoming a priority among clinicians.

The trend is impacting RTs and nurses alike, as about half of the attendees at the recent ARCF/EPA workshop were nurses.

While the ARCF/EPA workshop will now be going on hiatus, much of the same information on indoor environmental triggers—along with a wealth of additional information on managing asthma—will continue to be available via the Asthma Educator Certification Preparation Program.

“The AARC’s asthma course provides a comprehensive educational practicum as it relates to asthma management and is geared to preparing candidates to sit for the Asthma Educator-Certified exam,” explains Kallstrom. “As such it is the perfect educational venue for everyone—RTs and nurses alike—to increase their knowledge of asthma management and work toward the definitive credential in the field.

Two great opportunities are coming up to take advantage of this two day course:

The program has been approved for 10.25 hours of continuing education credit (CRCE) for respiratory therapists. It has been approved for 12.3 hours of CE by the Illinois Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
