• RT students from Wesley Granger’s program at the University of Alabama Birmingham are featured for organizing a Kick Butts Day event on campus in this article in the student newspaper. Faculty member Jerry King helped the students acquire materials for the event.

• Mardi Hayden is the center of attention in this article on the University of Connecticut web site. Mardi was just named the Cambridge Who’s Who Professional of the Year in respiratory therapy, and she used the occasion to provide a great overview of the profession.

• Kenny McCowen shares information about his college’s Evening Respiratory Care Program in this article in the Tribune, published in Southeast Texas.

• Dixie Damm comments on presidential politics in this article in the Knoxville, TN, News Sentinel. Reporters gathered Dixie’s opinions during a recent Democratic Club meeting. 

• Jeff Ludy congratulates RT students Christine Kearney, Van Lewark, and Angela Gutierrez for landing prestigious pediatric respiratory care internships at Duke Medical Center in this article on the University of Central Florida (UCF) web site. Ludy, who now directs the program at UCF, was among the first RT students to receive one of the internships back when he graduated from RT school in 1977.

And last but not least, here are the latest members/hospitals that have garnered good press for earning the AARC’s Quality Respiratory Care Recognition. As this long list illustrates, QRCR is a great way to educate communities about the important role RTs play in the health care system.

• Retreat Hospital is featured in this article on Richmond.com out of Richmond, VA. RT Director Greg Davis says the award demonstrates the staff’s commitment to providing the best care for patients. 

• Mat-Su Regional Medical Center is recognized in this article in the Anchorage, AK, Daily News, complete with quotes from the hospital CEO on the achievement.

• Seton Health/St. Mary's Hospital receives kudos in this article in the Times-Union out of Albany, NY. 

• Jackson-Madison County General Hospital is featured in this article in the Jackson Sun out of West Tennessee.

• Mercy Hospital Clermont is recognized in this article in the Florence, KY, Community Press & Recorder, with great quotes about the department from the hospital CEO and a prominent pulmonologist. It’s the third year in a row the hospital has received the honor.
