AARC Receives Minor Damage in Texas Storms
April 14, 2008
AARC offices received minor damage in what many believe was a small tornado that moved through the area early in the morning of April 10.
Downed trees and power lines, roof damage, toppled chimneys and flooding were seen throughout the neighborhood.
At the AARC offices, an air conditioning unit on the roof was picked up and moved 10 feet by winds, rupturing a gas line. Staff members arriving at work early Thursday morning alerted the gas company who worked on the problem and declared the building safe for entry after a couple of hours. Water entered through the roof and caused flooding in one wing of the building. Several trees around the building were downed in the storms as well.
The damage was severe enough to draw the attention of a local news station who came by and filmed around the building.
Five years ago, AARC property on Ables Lane in Dallas was severely damaged by a ruptured water main that caused flooding throughout the building. AARC eventually moved out of that property as it was deemed that repairs would be too extensive. The AARC moved to this property at that time, which also had a bit more room.
“This week’s episode was really only a minor inconvenience in comparison to our other brush with flooding,” said Sherry Milligan, associate executive director. Repair and restoration crews had most of the work done by Thursday afternoon.
