The Drive4COPD campaign that many of you participated in last fall has received PRWeek’s coveted Healthcare Campaign of the Year award.

One of the highest honors given in the public relations industry, the award is described as a “unique symbol of achievement and leadership.” Drive4COPD was especially cited for its ability to bring all of the components in the campaign together in a seamless manner that drove great results. (The campaign reached its initial goal of screening one million Americans for COPD earlier this year.) The judges also commended the campaign for integrating traditional and digital communications to achieve its objectives.

The AARC is proud of the role respiratory therapists played in making this national campaign a success. Over the course of just a few months, members from coast to coast rose to the occasion, using the simple, five question population screener to screen people for COPD at local events and health fairs in their communities.

The end result is that there are now thousands more people out there today who know they are at risk for COPD and thus have the opportunity to make the lifestyle changes and seek the early treatment that can significantly curtail the progress of the disease.
