AARC Supports Tobacco Trafficking Bill

The AARC is on board with legislation aimed at preventing Internet and mail order tobacco sales to minors and ensuring state and local governments collect the cigarette taxes due them on such sales.

The Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT) Act aims to:

• Require Internet and mail order sellers to verify a purchaser's age and identity before the sale, and use delivery methods that verify age and identity upon delivery.
• Require that all excise taxes on cigarettes and smokeless tobacco be paid to the applicable state, local, or Tribal governments before delivery. 

Read more in this Tobacco Free Kids letter signed by the AARC and many other groups and organizations. The letter went out to Sen. Herb Kohl, lead sponsor of the legislation in the Senate, to assist him in garnering support from his fellow Senators. The House has already passed the legislation.
