Several staff members greeted Congressman Marchant, including (from left), Karen Singleterry, Dale Griffiths, Congressman Marchant, Tom Kallstrom, Sherry Milligan, Cheryl West, and Marsha Cathcart.

Congressman Kenny Marchant visited the AARC offices yesterday and got a chance to hear about the Medicare Respiratory Therapy Initiative first-hand.

Marchant is the U.S. Representative for the district in which the AARC’s headquarters is located. He was expecting to hold a town hall meeting on health reform later that evening.

Elected to Congress in 2004, Marchant is a Republican who started his career as a roofing and building contractor. He served as a mayor and representative to the Texas state House.

AARC Director of Government Affairs Cheryl West and Chief Operating Officer Tom Kallstrom had the opportunity to sit down with Marchant to describe why the Medicare Initiative deserves to be part of health reform. In addition they reviewed statistics about the number of constituents in Marchant’s district who have lung disease, using recently published information from the American Lung Association (registration required).
