Rex Morgan, MD Cartoons Take Aim at Inhaler Transition August 20, 2008 The long anticipated elimination of CFC-emitting albuterol inhalers is coming up in just 4 months, and the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA) is turning to the comics to help educate the public on the change. This week, the syndicated cartoon strip, Rex Morgan, MD, is featuring a story line about a patient who learns her albuterol inhaler will no longer be available and how to adjust to the change. “A significant number of patients are not aware of the federal mandate, or how to safely go about making this change,” says AANMA President and Founder Nancy Sander. “Patients need to know that inhalers are changing, these changes are mandatory, and there are important decisions to make about treatment options that require thoughtful consideration of the patient’s medical history and current respiratory health status.” “Our goal with the strip is to affect the health care decisions of our readers,” says Rex Morgan, MD writer Woody Wilson. “Over the years, Rex has tackled a number of important medical issues, and it's our duty and honor to help AANMA get the word out.” You can view the cartoons via this link in the Seattle, WA, Post-Intelligencer, or look for them in your local paper. Rex Morgan, MD, appears in more than 300 newspapers in North America and 14 foreign countries, with an estimated 30 million readers each day.
