NAEPP Releases Summary Report on New Asthma Guidelines October 18, 2007 The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program released its long-awaited Expert Panel Report 3 (EPR-3): Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma in late August. Now the government agency is making a Summary Report available that should greatly facilitate the use of the guidelines in clinical practice. The 60 page document is available online now in PDF format and will be published in a printed version in December. The summary condenses the 500+ page guidelines into a more manageable overview clinicians can use to familiarize themselves with recommendations on:
Key tables and figures from the full report are also included for easy reference. “The summary report can serve as an invaluable resource for busy clinicians who want to review the key points in EPR-3,” says AARC COO Tom Kallstrom, RRT, AE-C, FAARC. “While the full document can provide more information when needed, the basic information available in this easy-to-read and shorter version can be the starting point for anyone interested in streamlining the implementation of the new guidelines into their practice.” |
