AARC Medicare Initiative Gets Alpha-1 Association Support

August 22, 2007

The Alpha-1 Association is on board with the AARC’s Medicare Initiative—our legislative proposal to amend portions of the Part B Medicare law to allow certain registered respiratory therapists to deliver a broader array of services in the physician’s office, home, and other outpatient settings.

The Association just posted a new page on its web site that clearly outlines the objectives of the proposal and how respiratory patients such as those with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency can help by contacting their members of Congress and urging them to introduce legislation that would put the proposal in motion.

The headline on the page says it all for patients who desperately need the services RRTs could provide if the Medicare law was amended: “If you’re on Medicare you can see your physician without going to the hospital. Why do you have to be admitted to the hospital to see your Respiratory Therapist?”

Check out the link and see how the Alpha-1 Association is supporting the AARC’s Medicare Initiative, then go to our own Capitol Connection web page to learn how you can contact your own members of Congress as well.
