I wanted to thank you for the asthma course this past weekend in St. Louis. All of the speakers were phenomenal and the material was interesting and relevant. In all, this was the best conference/workshop I have attended in my 13 years as a respiratory therapist. I took my exam yesterday and passed with flying colors. Thank you!

All presenters are excellent and well versed. Distinctly centers on NAECB Matrix and what we need to know. The entire course embraces your success, and all presenters are available for reference for questions. I am asthma educator certified AE-C currently and I attended this course because I wanted to double check myself from presenters who are well known in the field and respected regarding asthma/patient education. I also plan to particiapte as a presenter in an ALA Asthma Education Workshop and I wanted an overview from another source.

This well-established and highly successful AARC program is a 1 1/2-day course designed to assist respiratory therapists, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care professionals who are actively involved in asthma education and want to earn the Asthma Educator-Certified (AE-C), a credential awarded by the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB). The content of the course is based on the content outline of the NAECB examination and will assist the participants in recall, application, and analysis as it relates to specific areas of the examination. Topics to be covered on the course include:

• Pathophysiology and epidemiology of asthma
• Pharmacologic management of asthma
• Review and interpretation of pulmonary function
• Patient history and physical assessment
• Teaching patients self-management skills and behavioral modification
• Environmental factors of asthma
• Identification and remediation of asthma triggers

• Identifying and measuring asthma disease management programs outcomes

The Asthma Course will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Crossings. It has been approved for 10.2 hours of continuing education credit (CRCE) for respiratory therapists. This continuing nursing education activity was approved 10.2 hours of CE by the Illinois Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
