Call Your Member of Congress
Take a few minutes during this week to call your members of Congress and let them know how important their support for and co-sponsorship of HR 2619 The Medicare Respiratory Therapist Access Act is to you.
We have tips and information for calling your members of Congress, including the phone number for the U.S. Capitol Switchboard to ask for your Senators’ or Representative’s office.
Here are some talking points you can use when you make your call:
For your Senators:
I am a respiratory therapist (or student, or pulmonary patient, etc.) and I’m from (your town and state). I’d like to ask Senator_________ to support the Medicare Respiratory Therapist Access Act.
For your House of Representative Member:
I am a respiratory therapist (or student, or pulmonary patient, etc.) and I’m from (your town and state). I’d like to ask Congressman/woman _________ to co-sponsor HR 2619 The Medicare Respiratory Therapist Access Act.
- This legislation will provide coverage of chronic diseases management services such as education and self-management training to certain Medicare beneficiaries with chronic lung disease when furnished by qualified respiratory therapists (RTs) in the physician practice setting.
- The physician will bill Medicare, not the RT, and Medicare will pay the physician a reduced rate for such services.
- It will provide Medicare beneficiaries suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pulmonary hypertension and other chronic respiratory diseases greater access to the care they need from RTs.
- It will provide the tools these patients need to self-manage their disease and improve their outcomes which can lead to a decrease in hospital admissions, readmissions or emergency department visits.
Please become a supporter of this important legislation.
Thank you very much for your time.
