It's hard to believe that summer has flown by and it's "back to school" time already. Of course, in my neck of the woods, summer weather only arrived last week......just in time to close the pool! And this year, due to the change in the fall meeting date, it seems like the usual "crunch" is worse than ever. I haven't even bought my kid his new Nike's and Respiratory Care Week is almost here! Is it just a month or so until Cincinnati? Is there any chance that I will be ready for any of this?
In this issue, you will find some terrific resolutions, many in response to the challenge issued to us: help find some ways to save our precious dollars, while still meeting the needs of our constituents. You will also find some great information from committees like Progress and Transition, Bylaws, and Special Recognition. Pat Munzer has, of course, updated us on resolutions from the June meeting, and has also provided us with information on student recruitment efforts, as well as an update on the review status of AARC position statements from Pat Doorley. Ruth Krueger has updated us on how successful the electronic resolution process has been. I know this will serve as model for similar transmissions of other information (hint: watch your agenda books for the Publications Committee recommendations...). Thanks, Ruth and crew for laying the groundwork for us. Joe Huff has (of course!) given us something interesting to think about regarding non-traditional advertisements. Jonathan Lee reminds us of the ever-important emphasis on membership, which helps in many ways in addition to the obvious one: increased revenue. And, last but never least, Ken Thigpen brings us up to date on many issues which have been before us in the recent past. It's great to hear that our membership numbers are stabilizing. Hopefully we have reached the bottom of the slide and are truly on the way back up!
We've also included some articles from John Rutkowski that were originally published in the Management Section newsletter. We hope you will find them as interesting and thought-provoking as we did. See you in Cinci!
