Buckle Your Seat Belts

Ruth Krueger RRT, BS
HOD Secretary

We've got work to do! Ken issued the challenge in Vail to come up with ideas that would have a positive financial impact on the AARC and you all stood up to the challenge. Ideas flowed like lava. You should have before you 11 resolutions, both from Pat Lee in the mail and hopefully :-) from the list serve in a zipped document, the bulk of which have the potential to do just what Ken asked us to do. One of the resolutions has several authors that came up with different ideas for cost savers with basically the same justification. When this resolution is brought to the floor, the authors will all be available to address specific concerns regarding their piece of the resolution. This is the first time we've tried this format as a time saving mechanism. Hopefully it will flow as well as the ideas did.

We're attempting distribution of the resolutions on the list serve so that you can easily disperse them to your board. If this works well, it too will become a cost and time saver for us. We are now successfully using electronic submission of resolutions to all the resolution committee members and having worked with both systems, as the committee chair, electronic submission is an incredible time and $$ saver. Before electronic submission, I faxed numerous resolutions all over the country trying to rapidly keep the committee up to date. Now we just need to tweak the system to enable us to zip these resolutions into word documents for easy distribution on the list serve.

It's exciting to be a part of this changing association. I continue to be amazed at the enthusiasm and creativeness that the HOD, the BOD and the Executive Office puts forward. It seems as though when one of us is struggling, another comes along and picks us right back up, dusts us off and sets us back on the right path. Equally amazing is that it occurs across the board. All of you have such special gifts and insights that shine at just the right time. Adversity, if it doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. I found this to be true in my personal and professional life. At the state level, with the BON issues with delegation, many of our therapists rose to the challenge and fought for what we know is right. This created a coming together and helped form bonds between therapists across the state that weren't there before.

I am as excited about my profession as I was 25 years ago when I graduated. I attribute this not only to the great leadership in my workplace but also to my association with the HOD and BOD. Thanks for your mentorship and being willing to do what you all do so well!
